It's kind of sad; there's nothing I really want. I mean, there are things that I see at the store and I think, "Oh, that's cute," or whatever, but I think this is one of the first years that
there hasn't been some specific gift I'm really lusting after.
Even though we're grown adults, my mom still does a pretty big Christmas for us, so I did ask for some random books and DVDs (including Mad Men season 2, which I have been specifically holding
off on buying so I would have something to ask for for Christmas). Other than that, I'm sure she'll get me some stuff for my apartment and clothes.
We do a gift exchange with our relatives; I typically just give them a list of books and DVDs that I want.
Honestly, I want a cafe-style dining room table...but I don't really want anyone to give it to us, because it is so expensive. With the possible exception of my husband's mother who never even
gave us a wedding present.
I want too much stuff. A new TV for the bedroom, an ipod, a food processor, a slow cooker, an automatic starter for my car and I suppose that is actually it. I might go out next weekend and get
the TV in one of the big sales.
I think my big problem is that, if I want something, I just go out and buy it. I suppose if I didn't do that, I could have more in savings and have things to ask for for Christmas gifts, but oh
well.
You know, I don't really want for much. When I need/ want something, I get it. It's pretty bad actually because it shows I don't have any self-control!
Maybe a new digital converter box. Ours totally sucks, especially the remote control. One day we get 15 channels, the next day, 3. The next day 22 chanels, the next day 5. And of course the
channels we always get are the ones I don't care about at all!
Sorry for the rant there! Um, I guess I'd like to get gift cards so I can invest in some work clothes.
So I got a road bike back in August and having been practicing some amazing restraint at not going out and just buying up all the accessories I want. So I'm asking for them for Christmas.
Clipless pedals and bike cleats; a heart rate monitor; bike shorts and jerseys; and a little bag for underneath my saddle.
Non bike stuff, I'd love a food processor. But not one of those small ones, I had one of those and it blew up (literally, there was a bang a spark and burning, pretty frightening) but those
things are 1) huge and we don't have the room for it in my teeny kitchen and 2) quite expensive.
Oh and if we're just asking and this is pie in the sky, I'd ask for 4 more sets of our china. I doubt we'd ever really need 8 sets of them, but it would be nice to know I have a full set.
lilkim I'm the same way and my Mom always yells at me for it.
I already got my Christmas present - new snow tires! Well, a portion of my snow tires anyway. If I didn't need new snows I'd probably be asking for a new camera since mine has decided to stop
focusing when I zoom. Silly camera.
I'm with you, sy, if this is a pie-in-the-sky wish list, I'm asking for one of the houses in my neighborhood that's for sale. Most of them are around $750,000 or so, so if everyone contributes,
I can get one!
Sam, we both have a feeling that when she comes to visit next week and sees our dining room sans table, she might pony up for the gift, unprompted. But, if she doesn't we won't ask.
To everyone that wants a food processor- they are seriously the best kitchen appliance. I use mine so much!
I'm like that too Kim and Amy, if I want it, I just get it during the year so when Christmas comes I usually have nothing I want. So usually I'll ask for a gift card because I know people want
something to give you, it's so much easier when someone just tells you what they want.
I usually tell people to not get me anything but use the money towards coming to visit.
Sy - I bet you could find a good food processor on overstock for fairly cheap. Thats where I found the slow cooker I want!
gift cards are the best (sephora)- i hate to have to return things. tiff you also need a good blender to go with the food processor - i am loving my breville.
one year my FIL asked what i wanted for christmas (on christmas eve). i told him a box of cash, with a specific amount, in 10s and 20s. just being a brat! not serious! well, kinda serious but
not really.
sure enough, 2 hours later we're opening gifts, and he had gotten me a box of cash, in 10s and 20s!, more than the amount i requested!
he said i was lucky he didn't go into the box and take out the extra!
hahahha ok i'm glad i'm not the only one! i love gift cards too, but i don't really have a favorite store that i would love to get cards from. i'm very non-discriminatory when it comes to
shopping plus some friends want to go to vegas this spring. a little cash for the trip
would be nice!
You're right, sy, it's totally not that bad! I actually looked at two of the houses online yesterday, just because I was curious, and I was pleasantly surprised that they were asking so little.
I always ask my parents for cash and gift cards. They think that's impersonal, but the truth is I love to go shopping without having to feel guilty, so the process of shopping is just as much a
part of the gift!
But I make it easy and do an amazon wish list. I try to keep up with it throughout the year so I'm not just looking for things to fill it in November, because my mom loves that she can just get
me stuff from that.
This year I want a new curling iron, a new flat iron (my old hot tools guy is...old.), a food processor, Ally McBeal the series on DVD, a headphone adapter for my iPhone, a heart rate monitor,
the new fancy fancy mouse from Apple, a produce basket for the kitchen, this green vase from target, a door catch thingie for the front door (it automatically swings shut), some stationery, a
towel warmer, and a black cashmere turtleneck from J Crew.
That sounds like a lot! I sound so greedy, but they won't get me everything, that's justwhat's on my list right now, and that's also a wish list for my whole family to shop from for Christmas
and my birthday next week.
Last year I asked for a friction mount for my gps, flexible cutting boards, new uggs, a USB hub thingie so I could stop unplugging the printer every time I needed to plug in my camera, and a
roomba.
I always say I'm easy to shop for, because I just want a lot of things!
CG, I am headed to forever 21 today! Not a fan of their clothes but I've started to buy earring there.
I am actually desperately in need of a new flat iron, as well! I feel like hair gets thicker and thicker each day. I just have so much hair and my old one isn't cutting it anymore. Although, I
got it 6 years ago and it's a cheapo Revlon one, so I definitely got my money's worth with that purchase.
I try to save stuff like that for Christmas and my birthday (which is tough because they're only a month apart). I mean, I can definitely go buy myself the curling iron I want, I think it's
like $25, but I know it makes my mom happy to get stuff for me, and she gets stressed out when she doesn't know what to get someone, so.
Sam, sierra trading post has the best prices I've seen on smart wool! They had them at Costco this week, too, but the ones I wanted they didn't have in my size.
I have gotten them from timberland when they dumped them for their own label and EMS & campmor usually have them on special. I see them with a sale sign i go right for them. I got 2
cami/tanks from icebreaker for under $20.00/each SCORE! And I just got Driza-Bone bottoms (3/4 length) for the same price.
I live in an apartment in NYC - not a big bathroom and I would have to wire it to get power on that side. SIGH! Now i really want one. Can I add it to my wish list along with an electrician?
I would love to have the towel warmer. I just decided it was that time of year, time to put the electric blanket on the bed. I'm excited to get in tonight with the sheets and blankets all
pre-warmed.
i don't know which one you signed up for, mine was in the 50 dollar range (i got it from amazon too). i would say it warms the towels, but doesn't make them "from the dryer" hot, if that makes
sense. i know the more expensive ones make them hotter like spa towels.
i actually wanted it more as a towel drier because its actually so humid here that your towels never dry and thats so icky to me.
Sam, sometimes I take a towel fresh from the dryer and then fold it up tight and wrap it in another towel right before I get in the shower. It's still pretty warm when you get out.
OH yeah I forgot about REI. Thanks for the reminder. A sad day will be when i have to figure out what to do with them once they are beyond wear. I wonder if their are any hamsters that need
tube sweaters.?
i do love the wish list feature on amazon. i never send mine though, i usually just keep it as a list of things i've seen that i want, mostly books that i hope to not forget.
and then i keep a gift list which is SO handy when the holidays come. usually i've already got stuff in mind for half the people on my list.
My washer and dryer and a flight down and public with a creepy guy next door to the laundry room - I don't know about running down their at 4 am in my pj's for a warm towel.
i'm not a huge fan of forever 21, but they are awesome for trendy stuff that you aren't sure will be in the next season. or for party dresses. some of my friends haven't grown out of the "let's
get smashed and spill all over people" phase, so i don't like spending a lot on dresses.

Sooooo exciting!

i guess if we are just asking - a new TV would be nice - flat screen. not much else really.
tiff what does hubby say about hinting at his mom about a nice gift for the hoidays
Oh and if we're just asking and this is pie in the sky, I'd ask for 4 more sets of our china. I doubt we'd ever really need 8 sets of them, but it would be nice to know I have a full set.
oh and a new house.
lilkim I'm the same way and my Mom always yells at me for it.

i feel lame saying it, but i want cash money
Sam, we both have a feeling that when she comes to visit next week and sees our dining room sans table, she might pony up for the gift, unprompted. But, if she doesn't we won't ask.
To everyone that wants a food processor- they are seriously the best kitchen appliance. I use mine so much!
750,000 in DC is sadly not a terrible price. Gah, this place is disgusting!
I want one of those Sweater fuzz shaver thingees. Just broke out all my sweaters and they all have balls.
I want a gift cert to Forever 21. I was in there yesterday and i dont have near enough clothes from there.
I want smoker, cause i had smoked mac and cheese the other day and i almost died.
I'm like that too Kim and Amy, if I want it, I just get it during the year so when Christmas comes I usually have nothing I want. So usually I'll ask for a gift card because I know people want something to give you, it's so much easier when someone just tells you what they want.

Don't feel bad Snarky, that's what I ask for every year.

Smokers are great, CG! We use ours all of the time- and my hubby is a great "barbequer"
one year my FIL asked what i wanted for christmas (on christmas eve). i told him a box of cash, with a specific amount, in 10s and 20s. just being a brat! not serious! well, kinda serious but not really.

he's awesome!
what did you ask for the following year?
the same thing, adjusted for inflation with interest.
and you know what, he did the math and gave me the exact amount.
hahahha ok i'm glad i'm not the only one! i love gift cards too, but i don't really have a favorite store that i would love to get cards from. i'm very non-discriminatory when it comes to shopping

The bubble is bursting? Doubtful.

I want someone to pay my bills for me. That'd be nice....
Oh, and I also want smart wool socks. I'm obsessed with them. Obsessed! But they're so dern expensive.
I am actually desperately in need of a new flat iron, as well! I feel like hair gets thicker and thicker each day. I just have so much hair and my old one isn't cutting it anymore. Although, I got it 6 years ago and it's a cheapo Revlon one, so I definitely got my money's worth with that purchase.
i love smart wool socks - i live in them all year round. i usually buy in bulk when they are on sale. their clothes and icebreaker's line.
I try to save stuff like that for Christmas and my birthday (which is tough because they're only a month apart). I got a towel warmer last year for Christmas and I LOVE IT!! its the best thing ever.
OH that must be luxurious if i had a bigger bathroom I would soooo want one.
it can mount on the wall Sam, maybe you can fit one in!
I'm excited to get in tonight with the sheets and blankets all pre-warmed.
Oh, and I was going to say sometimes REI will have smart wool in a clearance bin, but you just have to get lucky on that one.
i don't know which one you signed up for, mine was in the 50 dollar range (i got it from amazon too). i would say it warms the towels, but doesn't make them "from the dryer" hot, if that makes sense. i know the more expensive ones make them hotter like spa towels.

how about this for the holidays
http://www.kirnazabete.com/designers/rick-owens/shearling-peplum-jacket
anyone up to buying one for me?
TS I just bought these pants at forever 21 yesterday
i love them.
For some reason their clothes never seem to fit me right, but if they work for you then more power to ya. They sell jeans for like $12!
I have been hitting up their accessories section like crazy though. I got my new favorite earrings there, $3.80!
i'm not a huge fan of forever 21, but they are awesome for trendy stuff that you aren't sure will be in the next season. or for party dresses. some of my friends haven't grown out of the "let's get smashed and spill all over people" phase, so i don't like spending a lot on dresses.
